Lumbar Spondylosis – affects the lower part of the spinal cord and gets worse over time. When a person has “lumbar Spondylosis”, the space between the vertebrae gets smaller, which hurts the “Spine”. This can lead to a number of health problems, from back pain to neurological issues. The condition can also cause inflammation in the area, which makes the nerves more sensitive.
Symptoms of Lumbar Spondylosis
- low back pain or numbness that can spread to the legs
- difficulty moving
- weakness in the leg muscles
- increased pain from standing or travelling for long periods of time
What causes Lumbar Spondylosis?
Aging is the most important cause of a condition that gets worse over time. Lumbar spondylosis in younger people is usually caused by smoking, being lazy, being overweight, having a family history of it, and, most of all, stress. Spondylosis can also be caused by damage to the spine. Intervertebral discs can herniate when they are hurt. Also, joints that have been hurt are more likely to get osteoarthritis.
Ayurvedic Management in Lumbar Spondylosis:
Lumbar spondylosis, which is mostly caused by an imbalanced Vatha dosha, can cause tingling, numbness, pain, and stiffness in the spine, among other things. So, treatment helps make the “Vata dosha” stable again after it has been upset.
The Ayurvedic therapy includes Panchakarma and Rejuvenation, herbal medicines and therapies, changes to the diet and way of life, and internal medications.
These ayurvedic treatments can help relax the muscles, relieve nerve and tissue inflammation, heal nerve damage, and strengthen the muscles.
Depending on how bad the illness is, therapies like Dhanyamladhara, Abhyanga Swedam, Elakizhi, Sarvangadhara, Vasti, Kati vasti, and Navarakizhi are often used.
The most basic therapies are Podikkizhi, which is a massage with herbal powder; Ilakkizhi, which is a massage with a fresh herbal poultice that relieves inflammation and relaxes the muscles; Kativasthi, which is when medicated oil is put on the back; Tailadhara, which is when medicated oils are poured all over the body; and Nhavarakkizhi, which is a massage with herbal powder (for healing and strengthening the muscles and nerves). Vasthi, which is also called “Medicated Enema”, is an important part of the treatment.
