Ayurveda states that the tendency to gain weight easily or not depends upon the body imbalance of the five elements and constitution of the 3 dosha, namely, Kapha, Pitta and Vata. The top reasons cited for the cause of obesity although is stated to be inactivity and poor dietary choices, diets and physical workouts does not much cause if underlying cause found with dosha imbalances are not simultaneously managed properly.

In Ayurveda, weight management tends to deal with how food is processed by our digestive system and impacts liver in the anabolic metabolism, thereby causing ama & kapha (toxins from drinks and blood) to accumulate. Kapha imbalance may result in obesity or gain in weight, while Ama build-up is quite typical among those underweight.

At MATTINDIA AYURVEDA, weight management therapy includes few particular ayurvedic treatments which help increase Fire element and reduces anabolic metabolism. The program also includes different types of steam and powder massages besides ayurvedic oral medications to enhance fire (pitta), thereby helping to boost the body’s catabolic metabolism.

Apart from Ayurveda based medications and treatments, there is offered better lifestyle and healthy diet at our ashram in mother nature. Also Ayurvedic therapy’s effect for weight loss can be optimized with meditation, pranayamas, yoga. etc.

Do note that there are not offered any kind of specialised diet along with the therapy. Like the guests present in our ashram, you will be provided with delicious, healthy food, twice in a day and fresh fruits once. Like other existing weight management programs offered, you will not be compelled at any point of time to eat more or less. Rather, we do suggest reducing bread or rice consumption amount. Our diet mostly comprises of lentils, curries, salads and vegetables with separate fruit meal. Hence, negative impacting nutrients like excessive sugars, fats, etc. are not present in our diet, if you wonder as to why your diet is not restricted. Starving as per our experience is not the right solution. Rather, healthy consumption what we recommend.
