Caring for the infant with Ayurveda, first six months

Caring for the infant with Ayurveda, first six months: When a newborn is brought out into this world out of a mother’s delivery, the entire world around him changes. From staying cocooned inside the mother’s womb for nine months, suddenly it is out into this large environment that may cause so many challenges to the bay who doesn’t even know how to combat them. So naturally, it is the mother’s duty to now create an obstacle-free environment for the baby to thrive in.

Ayurveda suggests many solutions to address this problem and helps in creating a vata-pacifying environment. Keeping the baby close to the body, and in slightly not-so-bright rooms will help the baby adjust to the light as it is just out of the dark womb. Making sure to not have visitors who come and bring in the dirt and germs with them is another way to protect the baby. So much human contact right after the baby is born can be tiresome for the baby.

There are several things to take care of when it comes to a newborn baby. This life is new and fragile. Right from Abhyanga, Udwarthana and Snana to Vastra Dharanam. Abhyanga refers to the process of massaging the baby lightly with oils infused with herbs to promote circulation and for string bone development. Udwarthana promotes the health of the skin. The treatment involves making a paste with herbs, powders and oils and is applied to the body of the baby. Finally, Snana is the process of giving the baby a bath with water that has been infused with healthy herbs. This is followed by Vastra Dharanam. This requires the baby to be dressed in clean and sterilized clothes all the time and should be changed enough times a day. The clothes should be soft in textures and free of any emboss or frill that may irritate the infant.

It is important to ensure your baby doesn’t face any sudden movements and is not awakened from the sleep during its slumber. Make sure the bay doesn’t cover its face in its sleep accidentally or it may have trouble breathing. Many parents think is fun to lift the child into the air but it may develop a fear of heights in the future. Treating the child gently with care and affection is important. It is possible that the baby is unintentionally stubborn, so instead of any form of abuse, try to use an understanding tone and deal with patience.
